The DLLE is a statutory department of the university of Mumbai that amiss to create skilled and learned human power through its various degree level programmers and skill development initiatives. Its extension education program is to two –way process that facilities mutual sharing of resources between the university and the community for the development of both.
The DLLE offers six types of extension work projects, including vocational career – oriented projects and community – oriented projects, to enhance the employability and IT skills of the students. Students who complete 120 hours of work on the extension work project are awarded an additional 10marks in the final exam.
The department’s objective is to make education relevant to real- life situations by serving as an intellectual intervention in the community’s living problems, developing a sense of responsibility towards society among students and designing programs to help students face life’s challenges DLLE efforts are focused on the central objective of Reach to the unreached by extending educational programs to enhance and improve the quality of life of less privileged groups.
DLLE’s extension work projects encompass various social issues, and students create awareness about these problems through activities like street plays, exhibitions, poster making surveys, seminar’s Udan Mahotsav & field visit.)

Objectives:
The objectives of lifelong learning and extension are outlined below for making education relevant to real situations.
- To serve as an intellectual intervention in community’s living problems
which need to be over come through an educational process. To develop among students a sense of responsibility towards society. - To design programs that will help students to face life and its challenges and thus create an ambience for a learning society.
- To deepen the teachers and students knowledge through a wider exposure to real life situation through a variety of programs.
- To prepare students for a greater social commitment.
- To enhance students employability skills .
- To cater to the needs of the unreached for promoting knowledge based society.

Extension Dimension
To facilitate the sensitization of the students to the Socio – cultural realities. The department s offers for the students extension work projects encompassing social issue. The students are creating awareness about these social problems / issues through various activities such as street play, exhibition, poster making Songs, Speech, Survey, Elocution and seminar.
There are six types of extension work projects being offered by the department under the two different units for enhancing the employability and IT skills of the students.
The projects are as given below. :-
- Vocational career oriented projects.
- Career projects ( CP )
- Industry Orientation Projects ( IOP)
- Population Education club ( PEC)
- Survey of Women’s Status ( SWS )
- National institute of open schooling ( NIOS )
